Canadian electronics firm Celestica has called a general meeting of all 380 employees at its Galway plant this evening.
It comes after a decision to reduce working hours last week due to the current economic downturn.
Celestica was the main contractor for Hewlett Packard in Ireland before that company announced last year that it was shifting manufacturing operations to Asia due to high labour costs.
This morning workers were reluctant to say too much ahead of this evening's meeting but they admitted the plant has been struggling in recent times.
Celestica employs 43,000 people worldwide with 30 manufacturing and design bases.
The Galway plant provided contract services, manufacturing ink jet cartridges for Hewlett Packard.
The loss of thousands of jobs at that company had a knock-on effect for Celestica in Galway.
Many of the employees worked at the same location previously for the manufacturing firm, MSL, before Celestica took over in 2004.
Just over a year ago, Celestica announced good news on the jobs front in the west with the addition of 120 new jobs at Parkmore Industrial Estate in Galway.
Today, 380 workers await news on the future of their jobs at tonight's special meeting at the plant at 7.30pm.
The news comes against the backdrop of an announcement this week that Celestica are letting go 600 people at their base in Minnesota in the US.
