A senior Vatican official has strongly criticised US President Barack Obama for overturning a ban on state funding for family-planning groups that carry out or facilitate abortions overseas.
Archbishop Rino Fisichella warned against what he called the 'arrogance' of those in power who think they can decide between life and death.
Mr Obama signed the executive order cancelling the eight-year-old funding restrictions on Friday.
The reversal won praise from Democratic lawmakers, family planning and women's rights groups but drew angry condemnation from pro-life organisations and Republicans.
