Green Party leader John Gormley has said some expenses and allowances for politicians have to go, while others have to change.

In an address to candidates for the local and European elections, Mr Gormley said people would see these changes among the measures included in a new package 'because the Green Party will insist they are'.

He acknowledged the public want leadership and stability and said they will get that from the Green Party in Government.

There will also be a new Green Deal which he promised could create thousands of new jobs through innovation and the use of green technology.

He promised major changes to the planning system, telling candidates that by the time of the election they would have in their hands 'the most radical piece of planning legislation' which will result in an end to corrupt zoning.
