About 200,000 children are expected to return to school.

Many of the schools were used to shelter Palestinians whose homes were damaged.

Yesterday Israel lifted a ban on UN and foreign aid workers entering Gaza.

The Israeli justice minister, Daniel Friedman, has been appointed to lead a defence team, should war crimes charges be brought following Israel's attacks on Gaza.

The Israeli army has already banned the publication of the identity of military leaders who directed operations in Gaza.

It has also emerged that the Palestinian justice minister met with the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at The Hague on Thursday, to discuss allegations of Israeli war crimes.

Gaza medics say that 1,330 Palestinians, including 400 children, were killed during Israel's 22-day assault on the coastal strip.
