Just after 9pm last night, two masked men, one in possession of a firearm, entered a house in the Keady road area of the city.
The male occupant struggled with the men and they fled leaving behind the firearm and a stun gun type device.
Police who had been called to the scene observed a 4x4-type vehicle in the area.
After it failed to stop they followed it for a short distance.
It then rammed the police car repeatedly before being driven across nearby fields and abandoned a short distance away.
Police saw one man running away from the vehicle.
