The EU Employment Commissioner has indicated that the Commission is ready to help people in Limerick following the announcement of the loss of jobs at Dell.

Commissioner Vladimir Spidla was speaking following a meeting with Irish MEPs Brian Crowley and Colm Burke, at which the case was made for making money from the €500m EU Global Adjustment Fund available to Limerick.

The money can be used for re-training.

Commissioner Spidla told RTÉ News that the situation in Limerick was difficult and that the Commission will use all means to help. He added that once a completed application was received from the Irish Government, it would be processed very quickly.
