A 23-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a teenager in Co Down at the weekend.

He is due before Downpatrick Magistrates' Court later this afternoon.

The 18-year-old victim suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries when attacked at a house at Windmill Park in Ballynahinch early on Sunday morning.

Earlier, three women were charged with withholding information about the stabbing.

Police said the three, aged 35, 20 and 17, had been released on bail to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates Court next month.

Detectives are trying to establish if the attack on the teenager was linked to a rampage through the area that night.

A group of young people, at least one armed with a baseball bat, smashed windows in three houses and numerous cars at Windmill Gardens and Windmill Park on Saturday night.
