The 61-year-old died last Friday after a year-long battle with cancer.
His remains were removed to St Agatha's Church on North William Street in Dublin at 5pm.
His funeral mass will take place at 10am tomorrow.
Gardaí have urged those attending to travel on foot or to use public transport as there will be limited parking.
Meanwhile, a new development in Dublin's north inner city is to be named after Mr Gregory.
Last night, a meeting of city councillors passed a motion to rename the site of the old Mountainview flat complex in Summerhill.
