One in five now have broadband in EU

The gap between the best and worst performing states in the EU on broadband penetration is narrowing, according to a new report from the EU Commission.

The gap between the best and worst performing states in the EU on broadband penetration is narrowing, according to a new report from the EU Commission.

Overall broadband penetration in the union reached 21.7% in July, up from 18.2% a year earlier.

On 1 July 2008 there were over 107m fixed broadband lines in the EU, up 17m.

The report also says mobile broadband is starting to take off, with 6.9% penetration.
