Farmers protest over sheep subsidiesThursday 27 November 2008 16.58
Farmers are continuing their demonstration outside the Department of Agriculture in Dublin seeking new subsidies for sheep producers.
The farmers have penned-in about 12 sheep near the entrance to the department as part of their protest.
The IFA is seeking a new €20 per ewe payment, which they say was agreed last week in Brussels, with the money due to come from unused CAP funds.
Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith said he will decide how the funds will be spent and that he will not be influenced by any group.
IFA National Sheep Committee chairman Henry Burns accused Minister Smith of trying to back-track on his promise to allocate unused funds to the sheep sector.
