Fatal crashes in Galway & Belfast

Two people have died following separate road accidents in Co Galway and Belfast.

A 51-year-old woman has died following a car crash in Co Galway.

She was the driver of a car which collided with a tree on a minor road at Keamsellagh, near Kilcolgan at around 8pm last night.

The woman was taken to University College Hospital in Galway where she died from her injuries.

Gardaí say the woman was the only occupant of the car and no other vehicles were involved.

Her death brings to 250 the number of people who have lost their lives on roads in the Republic so far this year, a decrease of 35 on the number of fatalities for the same time last year.

Elsewhere, a man has died following an accident in Belfast.

His motorcycle crashed on the Old Holywood Road last night. No other vehicle was involved.
