In August the Belarusian government stopped children affected by the nuclear disaster in the area from travelling to Ireland and other countries.

Authorities in Belarus want a more formal arrangement for the visits.

Head of Chernobyl Aid Ireland William Grant and Fianna Fáil MEP Eoin Ryan are meeting with the Belarus Ambassador to the EU, Senk Vladimer, in Brussels today.

Up to 200 children normally visit Ireland over Christmas.
