Speaking on the eve of a special meeting to discuss the winding up of the Progressive Democrats, the former leader Mary Harney has repeated her view that the party does not have the capacity to elect people to the Dáil.
She said she came to that view regretfully and after 12 months consideration.
Speaking to RTÉ, Ms Harney said that those who wanted the party to continue in existence might be more likely to attend tomorrow's meeting.
Ms Harney said she would encourage as many members as possible to travel to Mullingar so that all voices could be heard.
The Health Minister said she would not be threatening or bullying the membership, but she would have to reflect on her position in party should they vote to stay in existence.
