The company, which employs 290 people in the production of warehousing products, is embarking on a restructuring programme to cut costs.

SIPTU representative Karen O'Loughlin met with management this afternoon to discuss the cost-cutting plans.

Ms O'Loughlin said: 'The union and company have agreed to work closely together to reduce costs and we intend to conclude negotiations by the end of next week.'

Meanwhile, several hundred temporary workers at the giant Dell manufacturing plant in Limerick are being let go as the company comes to the end of a third quarter.

The company said it took on temporary workers every three months, depending on demand for its computer products.

While the company would not specify the numbers, it is understood that up to 500 workers are being let go.

The company has made no decision on the future of its 3,000 permanent staff.

Elsewhere, there are fears that 54 jobs are to be lost at the Hannon's Poultry factory in Roscommon.

Trade union officials and local politicians said that staff at the plant were informed at lunchtime that it is to close with immediate effect.

The majority of the workers at the poultry processing factory are Brazilian and Polish nationals.

There has been no official statement from the company.
