Talks between Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív, Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources Éamon Ryan and concerned groups from Erris in north Mayo have been described this evening's meetings over the Corrib gas project as productive and positive.
Both ministers said they had come to Mayo to listen to the different elements in the dispute and they now needed time to reflect on the issues.
Shell to Sea campaigner Maura Harrington said the ministers were eight years too late with their attempt at dialogue and described the meeting a PR exercise.
Other groups from the Erris area where the Shell terminal is to be located including the Mayo Pro-Gas Group welcomed the two minister's initiative and commitment to finding a resolution to the issue.
Minster Ryan and Minister Ó Cuív also held meetings with four of the five elected Mayo TDs as well as a number of Mayo county counsellors.
