At least 14 people died when a Slovak bus crashed on the main Croatian highway connecting the capital Zagreb and the Adriatic city of Split.

The bus, carrying 49 people and travelling from the Slovak city of Kosice towards the Adriatic coast, hit a highway flyover pillar around 190km south of Zagreb.

State radio said the cause of the accident is under investigation

Around 20 passengers were severely injured in the accident out of which five people are reported to be in critical condition.
