He increased his lead to 8-1 at the end of the third.

His Olympic final will take place on Sunday morning.

Earlier, Paddy Barnes lost his semi-final bout to the Chinese fighter Zou Shiming.

Barnes, from the Holy Family club in Belfast, was beaten 15-0 by the double world champion.

Barnes leaves the games with an Olympic bronze medal.

He trailed Zou 2-0 at the end of the first round and 8-0 at the end of round two.

The Chinese boxer who was a bronze medal winner at the 2004 games - increased his lead to 11-0 at the end of round three.

A bitterly disappointed Paddy Barnes said after the fight that he did not want his Olympic bronze medal.

Speaking immediately after his 15-0 semi-final defeat, the Belfast boxer said 'they can keep the bronze medal, for all I care'.

He added that bronze medals were 'for losers'.

The fighter said that his opponent had beaten him 'fair and square' in the light-flyweight bout.

But he said that it was embarrassing for him not to have scored a single point because he had hit his opponent 'a good lot of shots'.

He agreed with interviewer Marty Morrissey that he felt aggrieved at the judges for not awarding him any points, and questioned the method of judging. He said the same thing (no scores) had happened in other fights.

He also said if judging continued in that way, 'I don't think I'll be boxing next year'.

Sutherland lost his middleweight semi-final bout to British boxer James DeGale this morning.

Sutherland and DeGale were tied 1-1 at the end of round one. DeGale led 3-1 at the end of the second round. He increased his lead to 8-2 at the end of the third round.

The final result was 10-3 in favour of the Englishman.

Darren Sutherland has said he is delighted with his bronze medal and confirmed that his defeat was his last amateur fight.
