The number of working days lost in industrial disputes increased in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period in 2007.

Official figures from the Central Statistics Office show 727 days were lost in the three months to the end of June.

That was up from 300 in the same period a year ago.

However, the figure was well down on the 1,477 lost in the first three months of the year.

There were five disputes in the period including one which continued from the first quarter at Dublin-based Townlink Construction.
