The move aims to increase compliance among road users and improve road safety.
The latest figures show that 165 people have been killed on Irish roads so far this year.
This is down on last year, when 195 people had lost their lives by the end of July.
Gardaí say that inappropriate speed, which is the single greatest contributory factor to road deaths, will be a priority target over the period.
They are advising motorists that reducing speed by just one kilometre per hour results in a 4% reduction in fatal collisions.
Gardaí will also focus on drink driving, with an increased number of mandatory alcohol breath testing checkpoints.
Over last year's August bank holiday weekend, over 2,500 people were arrested for speeding, almost 400 were arrested for drink-driving and four people were killed.
