Lismore residents return to homes

watch

Residents of a housing estate in Lismore, Co Waterford, who were forced to evacuate their homes yesterday following a fire at a nearby disused factory, have been moving back into their homes today.

Air quality tests carried out last night by a private environmental safety company found there was no danger from asbestos in the air.

The sample testing was done at six locations in and around the former Sam Shire recycling facility on the outskirts of the town.

It is understood the Health & Safety Authority are not to carry out any investigation.

Gardaí are examining the now burned out factory as their investigations continue as to the cause of the blaze, which is believed to have started sometime after 10pm on Sunday.

Nobody was injured in the incident but gardaí think the fire was started deliberately.
