Indaver Ireland has announced it is to start construction work on the controversial incinerator at Carranstown in Co Meath next month.
The company says the €130m plant will be up and running in three years' time.
However, local people opposed to the project are expected to continue their fight to prevent the building work.
It has been years since Indaver Ireland first proposed to build the incinerator at Carranstown near Duleek. The project has been the subject of several court actions and oral hearings.
But the company has proved successful in its plans to build the first municipal waste incinerator in the country.
The company says the facility will be operational by early 2011.
Indaver claims it will burn around 200,000 tonnes of waste a year, generating enough energy to meet the needs of around 20,000 homes.
