Talks to avert a strike in the Balearic Islands are ongoing

Negotiations are continuing between unions and management to avert a threatened strike by airport ground staff on the Spanish islands of Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca.

Thousands of Irish holidaymakers flying to and from the islands face disruption tomorrow morning if the strike goes ahead.

More than 1,000 workers, including baggage handlers, airport bus drivers and catering staff, plan to stage the first of three 24-hour stoppages from midnight tonight.

50% of flights to and from the Balearic Islands could be affected.
