MRSA could cost the State €500m

The State could be forced to pay out €500m in compensation to people who have contracted MRSA in Irish hospitals.

The State could be forced to pay out €500m in compensation to people who have contracted MRSA in hospitals.

The Public Accounts Committee has heard that the State Claims Agency is already dealing with 100 cases from people who contracted the hospital bug.

The committee was also told that a legal firm is arranging to take an action against the SCA and that the number making claims could rise to 1,500.
