Irish troops maintain presence in Chad

The Irish contingent of the EU protection force in Chad are maintaining a presence in an area close to where they were fired on yesterday.

The Irish contingent of the EU protection force in Chad are maintaining a presence in an area close to where they were fired on yesterday.

The troops were monitoring a clash between Chadian army and rebel forces when they came under fire. They returned warning shots from their armoured vehicles.

There were no Irish casualties.

A Defence Forces spokesman said it is not clear who fired upon the troops.
