A giraffe has been born at Dublin Zoo. It was born at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

So far there is no word on whether the calf is a male or a female.

Last June, a male giraffe was born at Dublin Zoo. In January, a female calf died after a difficult delivery.

Baby giraffes are about six feet (1.8 metres) tall when they are born, and then grow about an inch every day. They double their height in one year.

Female giraffes carry their babies (usually just one at a time) for about 15 months before they are born.
