A 20-year-old woman has died after a crash in Navan, Co Meath.

The collision happened at about 11.15pm last night at Boyne Road in Navan when a car went into the canal beside the River Boyne. 

A woman passenger in the car managed to free herself and raise the alarm.

The woman driver was pronounced dead on arrival at Navan General Hospital.

There was no other vehicle involved in the crash.

In another incident this evening, four people were injured in a collision in Co Clare.

One of the victims was injured seriously.

The two-car collision happened just after 6pm this evening on the main road between Ennis and Galway at Crusheen.

The four have been taken to Ennis Regional hospital.

Their injuries are described as not life threatening.

In another separate incident, the N11 southbound was closed this morning between the junctions of Clonkeen Road and Johnstown Road following a crash at the Johnstown Road junction.

The collision between a cyclist and a car happened just after 7.15am this morning.

The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital.

Elsewhere, a man has been injured in an apparent hit-and-run accident in west Belfast.

The PSNI say that around 2am this morning a silver hatchback car mounted the pavement at the Shaws Road and struck a pedestrian.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
