€11m contraband cigarettes seized

Customs officers have seized around 30m contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of €11m.

The cigarettes were hidden in four containers which arrived at Dublin Port from Singapore on Wednesday.

The containers, which had been under surveillance, were seized at premises in Co Louth and Co Meath last night.

A number of people have been interviewed by gardaí and the Revenue Commissioners say investigations into the smuggling attempt are continuing.
