The death of a 37-year old man, who died a week after he turned up at a hospital in Cork city with head injuries, is being investigated by gardaí.
They say they are treating the man's death as suspicious.
Ian Queally was originally from Blackrock in Cork but had recently been living at Victoria Cross in the city.
It is believed he had been due to travel to the US for two weeks holiday last Wednesday.
The night before he was due to travel it is thought Mr Queally may have been out drinking.
He then cycled to the home of a couple he knew at Barrack Street on the south side of Cork city.
He spent the night at the couple's house. Gardaí are investigating if there was an altercation at the house.
The following morning Mr Queally was taken to Cork University Hospital by taxi.
His condition deteriorated quickly. He underwent surgery and was being treated in the intensive care unit.
He died there last night without regaining consciousness since his surgery.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out on his body later.
Gardaí are appealing to people who knew Mr Queally to contact them, particularly those who may have seen him or been with him last Tuesday.
The investigation is being conducted by detectives at Anglesea Street Garda Station in Cork City and they can be contacted at 021-4522000.
