House prices fell again in March

National house prices fell by another 0.7% in March, according to the latest Permanent tsb/ESRI house price index.

National house prices fell by another 0.7% in March, according to the latest Permanent tsb/ESRI house price index.

In the first three months of this year, average house prices fell by 2.2% compared to falls of 3.9% in the same time last year.

House prices fell by 0.8% in February and by 0.7% in January. In the 12 months to March, the index says that house prices are down by 8.9%.

The index reveals that the average price paid for a house in March of this year was €281,643. This compares to €287,887 in December 2007.

The survey says that Dublin house prices were down 0.2% in March, while there was a reduction of 0.6% for houses around the rest of the country.

For the first three months of 2008, prices for Dublin and outside Dublin were down 1.8% and 2.8% respectively.

The average price paid for a house in Dublin was €390,274 while a house elsewhere was €242,300.
