A man has been charged with rape, indecent assault and gross indecency as part of an ongoing investigation into historical child abuse in Jersey.

He was named as Claude James Donnelly, 68, of Petit Route des Mielles, St Brelade, Jersey.

He will appear before St Helier Magistrates tomorrow.

An extensive search of the former children's home at Haut de la Garenne has been continuing since earlier this year.

Some 100 people have come forward claiming they were abused at the former home, while some 25 people were being investigated as suspects.

Most of the alleged abuse is understood to have taken place in the 1970s and 1980s.
