The Licensed Vintners Association has said that early morning opening pubs should not be forced to disappear later this year under the Government's proposed legislation to tackle excessive drinking.
The so-called early houses originally opened early in the morning to provide food and refreshment for people who finish their jobs at unusual hours.
LVA chief executive Donall O'Keeffe said he disagreed with the Government's report on alcohol this week, which found the early houses were not needed anymore.
Mr O'Keeffe said early houses were dwindling in number but he believed certain workers still needed them.
