140 manufacturing jobs are to be created by a Longford company that specialises in the production of components for drilling in North Sea oil and gas exploration.

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin, was at the Cameron plant this morning to confirm the €15m investment.

The plant makes chokes and other components for oil and gas exploration.

However, the news comes on the day when a local electronics firm is expected to confirm it is to close down with the loss of 66 jobs.

Kimball Electronics is consolidating its European operations and moving its Longford town plant to Poland over the next seven months.
