Counterfeit DVD factory raided in Co Dublin

Gardaí have uncovered a large-scale factory in Co Dublin where thousands of illegal DVDs were being made.

Gardaí have uncovered a large-scale factory in Co Dublin where thousands of illegal DVDs were being made.

The value of the items seized in the raid is estimated at almost €500,000.

30,000 counterfeit DVDs were found at a house on the Naul Road in Balbriggan in north Co Dublin following a search by gardaí in Balbriggan.

The raid was part of an ongoing inquiry by gardaí in Balbriggan into the illegal copying of DVDs for sale at markets nationwide.

Officers from the detective unit, drugs unit and the divisional task force also seized several items of equipment.

These included ten electronic devices for copying DVDs, 20 printers, ten television sets and ten photocopying machines.

Two vehicles were also impounded. The seized items have been provisionally valued at more than €400,000.

The scene was technically examined but no arrests were made.

Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.

The seizure is part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale of illicit goods at open-air markets nationwide.
