Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan is due to receive a report from the Alcohol Advisory Group.
A spokesperson for the Minister said he will consider the Group's findings and will publish legislation on the issue shortly.
Minister Lenihan set up the Alcohol Advisory Group in January to examine the current law regulating the sale and consumption of alcohol.
The group looked at the increase in the number of supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations that sell alcohol.
It also examined below-cost selling of alcohol products.
Mr Lenihan is expected to receive the report today or tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Road Safety Authority says it will shortly be sending its recommendations on lowering the blood-alcohol level limit to Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey.
The Minister asked the RSA to compile a report for him on the legal blood-alcohol level.
The Government's Road Safety Strategy requires that the limit be reduced by June 2009, although it does not specify a level.
