watch listen

An umbrella group of health unions and patient campaign groups is planning a march for a better public health service.

The group includes the Dublin Council of Trade Unions, medical and nursing organisations and families affected by the superbug MRSA.

A march and rally will take place from 2.30pm next Saturday, from Parnell Square to Molesworth Street in Dublin.

SIPTU's Des Derwin, President of the DCTU, said Ireland was a wealthy country and could afford a decent, well-funded health service.

Irish Nurses' Organisation President Madeline Spiers claims the health service is being run by accountants and not serving patients.

The organisations have called for a large turnout to demonstrate public dissatisfaction with the health service. They say they will be disappointed with any fewer than 70,000 people.
