GAA President Nicky Brennan has described as 'probably unrealistic' the Catholic Bishops' call not to have under-age games on Sunday morning.
The hierarchy says the games clash with Sunday morning religious services and the traditional family meal.
The GAA has responded that a Sunday morning moratorium on his code's under-age games was probably unrealistic, as they had become a tradition over a long period.
Nicky Brennan underlined that Mass is attended on both Saturday and Sunday evenings and that most GAA activities do not begin until 11am on Sundays.
Archbishop Clifford responded that evening masses were generally attended by older generations.
He said the hierarchy's message was directed at parents and volunteer coaches and that he was confident the country people he knew well would listen to it.
He said it was time to 'blow the whistle' on the take-over of Sunday by sports and shopping.
