New figures show that the number of cases coming before the commercial division of the High Court has increased dramatically over the last four years.
The figures also show that cases coming before the Commercial Court are disposed of more quickly than any other division of the courts.
The Commercial Court was set up in 2004 and its list is managed by Mr Justice Peter Kelly.
The figures show that most of the cases coming before it concern business disputes worth more than €1m.
In its first year, 43 cases were entered into the Commercial Court list. That rose to 106 in 2005, 113 in 2006 and 196 last year.
The figures show that the average waiting time from entry into the list until the conclusion of the action is 21 weeks.
25% of cases concluded in less than 6 weeks.
Of the 458 cases entered into the list between 2004 and 2008, 362 cases have been disposed of. 240 of those cases were settled.
