The Taoiseach has told the Dáil it is no secret that Britain's Queen Elizabeth would dearly love to come to this country.

Bertie Ahern said that if the issue of policing was completed in Northern Ireland, and it was scheduled to be in the short term, then he said the Government could put its mind to considering the issue seriously.

He was responding to a question from the Opposition.

He said a visit by the British Queen would not happen in 2008 as it was going to take some considerable time to organise.

The Taoiseach said the Government had not discussed the matter.
