As the operation is nearer to the Irish coastline, the Irish rescue helicopter based in Waterford has agreed to assist.

Meanwhile, a Spanish crewman was successfully airlifted to hospital after suffering a heart attack aboard a fishing vessel off the coast of Cork.

The Spanish vessel called for help at 7am this morning.
