The US presidential campaign teams of Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have clashed sharply one week ahead of the crucial primaries in Texas and Ohio.

The Obama campaign has accused the Clinton camp of indulging in 'fear-mongering', after a photograph of the Illinois senator dressed in traditional African robes turned up on the Drudge Report website.

The website said the photo, taken during a visit to Kenya two years ago, was passed to it by Clinton staff members.

However, the Clinton campaign denies passing on the photo.

Meanwhile, Senator Clinton inferred that her rival is a risky choice to head up US foreign policy.

A poll by CBS News and the New York Times has given Mr Obama a 16-point lead over Mrs Clinton among Democrats nationwide, at 54% to 38%.

But the former first lady insists that her campaign remains on track heading into the Ohio and Texas primaries next Tuesday.
