The resignation of Ian Paisley Jnr was the first question put to Dr Paisley when he and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness held a press conference with Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond.
Ian Paisley Jnr is taking part in the visit to Scotland by the leaders of Northern Ireland's power-sharing Executive.
But the event has been overshadowed by his resignation, which has also raised questions over the political future of Dr Paisley himself.
Asked at a press conference at Edinburgh Castle if he was saddened by the resignation, Dr Paisley said he would not make any comments whatsoever to the press about internal matters in Northern Ireland.
Dr Paisley's son stepped down on Monday as a junior minister following controversy arising from claims about his lobbying and links to a property developer.
He insists he has not done anything wrong.
The Northern Ireland delegation began their visit with a tour of the Scottish Parliament Building.
At the Edinburgh Castle press conference Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said the two administrations had discussed progress on a joint proposal for a ferry service between Campbeltown in Argyll and Ballycastle in Antrim.
Yesterday Mr Paisley said Northern Ireland could learn much from Scotland's experiences of devolution and that they had a lot in common, both economically and socially.
He and Mr McGuinness also visited an anti-sectarianism project in Edinburgh.
Mr Salmond paid a visit to Stormont last year following his election success and addressed Northern Ireland Assembly members from all parties.
