Former Labour leader Pat Rabbitte has told the Mahon Tribunal he cannot explain why lobbyist Frank Dunlop counted him as a supporter of the Quarryvale development.

The tribunal heard that in his notes prior to crucial rezoning vote in December 1992, Mr Dunlop listed then Democratic councillor Pat Rabbitte as a likely supporter.

Mr Rabbitte said he could not account for Mr Dunlop's doodlings and that he may have been trying to impress whoever he was working for.

Mr Rabbitte has already told the tribunal that he returned a £2,000 cash donation Mr Dunlop gave him before the general election in November 1992.

Mr Dunlop claims he gave Mr Rabbitte £3,000.

Mr Rabbitte said he and his party colleagues consistently opposed Quarryvale and voted against it in December 1992.

He admitted Green Property, the developers of a rival shopping centre at Blanchardstown, gave him use of a mobile phone during the 1992 general election.
