Foley remains critical after shooting

The convicted criminal, Martin Foley, remains critically ill in hospital after he was shot a number of times outside a gym on Kimmage Road West in south Dublin city.
Foley, 55, was shot at least four times as he drove out of the Carlisle gym on the Kimmage Road just after 3pm this afternoon.
He was taken to St James's Hospital in Dublin.
Foley was driving out of the gym when he noticed a car with a gunman come near him. He was shot at least four times, in the shoulder, chest and lower body.
Foley is a well known gangland criminal. His first conviction was in 1968 and since then he has been a member of Martin Cahill's criminal gang, one of the so-called concerned criminals, abducted by the IRA and jailed for numerous offences including breaking a garda's jaw.
It is the fourth time Foley, who is known as 'the Viper' has been shot; in 1995 outside Fatima Mansions, in 1996 by the convicted murderer Brian Meehan and in 2000 as he left a swimming pool in Terenure.
Today's shooting is believed to be linked to the ongoing feud between two Crumlin/Drimnagh based criminal gangs, one of which Foley is aligned to. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
