The new Irish Aid Volunteering and Information Centre in Dublin has been opened by the Taoiseach this afternoon.
The new centre is designed to raise awareness of development issues and the role of Irish Aid in tackling global poverty.
The opening continues one of the themes of last week's visit to southern and eastern Africa by Mr Ahern.
Now the public will get their own opportunity to learn more about how Irish money is helping some of the world's poorest people.
The centre will also outline opportunities for individuals to get involved in development aid, at home and abroad.
It has been welcomed by Comhlámh, the Irish sssociation of development workers, which said it would give the public a great opportunity to engage with the issues that underpin global poverty and inequality.
The centre, which is located in the old eircom premises at the junction of O'Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, is open to the public from this afternoon.
