Reverend Ron Johnstone from Armagh has replaced the DUP leader, the Rev Ian Paisley, as the head of the Free Presbyterian Church.
Mr Paisley, who had been the moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church since he founded it 57 years ago, stood down following a meeting of senior church officers in Dungannon, Co Tyrone tonight.
It had been indicated that Mr Paisley would be stepping down.
