Shannon Development says it has not ruled out the possibility that Aer Lingus may re-instate the Shannon-Heathrow service, which ended last Sunday evening after 60 years.

At the launch of their end of year statement, the company said they still found the rationale behind the Aer Lingus decision to axe the service very difficult to understand, given it was a profitable route which was heavily supported.

It carried over 330,000 passengers last year.

John Brassil, Chairman of Shannon Development, said he did not rule out the possibility that if the figures for the Aer Lingus Belfast-Heathrow route do not stack up to those anticipated by the company, then they may look at the possibility of re-instating the service.
