Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions fell by 0.8% last year, according to figures released by the EPA.
The EPA says there was a substantial drop of 4.6% in emissions from energy generation mainly because the Moneypoint plant was out of operation for some time last year.
The figures show that emissions from agriculture were 1.4% lower than in 2005.
However, emissions from transport increased by 5.2%.
The EPA says that while Ireland's Kyoto target over the next four years is 62 million tonnes per annum, Ireland's emissions in 2006 of 69 million tonnes were almost seven million tonnes above this limit.
