A suspected Taliban suicide attack has killed seven people at a luxury hotel in Kabul.

Norway's Foreign Minister, Jonas Gahr Stoere, who was in the hotel at the time, was unhurt in the attack at the five-star Serena Hotel in central Kabul.

Six people, most of them security guards, were killed in the attack, an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman said.

A Norwegian journalist later died of his wounds.

The attack started with a suicide bomb at the heavily guarded gate of the hotel which is surrounded by high walls.

After the suicide bombing, there were reports of another explosion, followed by shooting.
