The governing body of the church had been due to consider the selection of a new moderator in Lisburn after Ian Paisley indicated he was prepared to stand down from the position.
He was a founding member of the Church in 1951.
There are some 50 Free Presbyterian ministers in Northern Ireland; of those linked with the vacancy include Rev Ron Johnston and Rev John Grier.
After 81-year-old Ian Paisley led the DUP into a power-sharing administration in May, some church members became unhappy with his dual role as First Minister at Stormont and moderator of their church.
