Santa record attempt in Derry

watch

More than 10,000 Santas took over the walls of Derry city today in an attempt to put the city into the Guinness Book of Records.

The charity event aims to smash the world record for the number of Santas congregated in the one place.

The organisers say they believe they have created a new world record but it remains unofficial at this stage.

It could take two or three weeks before verification is completed.

14,000 Santa suits were made available - the smallest one for three-month old Niamh Casey.

Las Vegas holds the current record of over 7,000 Santas.

Derry's Santa's will join the real Santa Claus, and hope to raise £400,000 for local charities.
